GreenVolts, Inc., provider of the industry’s first and only complete and fully integrated solar system, today announced the availability of its solar energy management software for iPad® and iPhone® mobile devices.
Solar power is one of those technologies that have been promised to be just a few years from profitability for 30 years. Solar panels are an environmentalist’s dream — limitless electricity from the sun with no air pollution or carbon dioxide emissions — but they’ve had a hard time competing with coal, natural gas, oil and other sources of energy.Read more
Intensive research around the world has focused on improving the performance of solar photovoltaic cells and bringing down their cost. But very little attention has been paid to the best ways of arranging those cells, which are typically placed flat on a rooftop or other surface, or sometimes attached to motorized structures that keep the cells pointed toward the sun as it crosses the sky.
The U.S. added a record 1,855 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity in 2011, a 109% increase versus the year prior, said GTM Research and the the Solar Energy Industries Association, a national trade group. The report projects that new installations will increase further to more than 2,800 megawatts in 2012. Average photovoltaic system prices fell 20% last year, with a glut of solar panels hitting world markets.
